giffgaff does the Hokey Cokey
New goodybag gives members free minutes in return for incoming calls
Community-led mobile network giffgaff is yet again turning mobile pricing structures on their head with their latest trial product – Hokey Cokey – which gives members a free minute in return for every full minute they spend on an incoming call.
The new goodybag – part of the giffgaff Labs range – costs just £5 and comes with 60 minutes to UK landlines and mobiles and 300 texts to UK mobiles. As an added bonus, for every minute spent receiving an incoming call, one free minute will automatically be added to the customer’s balance to use for calls to UK landlines and mobiles.
giffgaff introduced the Labs range in September as a test-bed to trial different new products with members. Each Labs offer lasts for a short promotional time before a new one is revealed with a range of exclusively priced minutes, texts and data. Hokey Cokey is the second labs offer, following the 2p call, 1p text bundle introduced this autumn.
Mike Fairman, giffgaff CEO, comments on the launch:
“We think that there is a lack of innovation amongst mobile operators and the launch of Hokey Cokey is a perfect example of how we’re continuing to challenge this.
As the number of SIMs being used in the UK continues to grow – it now exceeds the number of people living here – we are seeing our members increasingly using two SIM cards to get the best deals on calls, texts and data. In this situation, networks cannot ignore the simple fact that the battleground has moved from capturing customers to capturing the SIM card customers use most.
At giffgaff, we think that the SIM card most calls are received on will be the one that’s used most for outbound calls so it makes sense to reward that behaviour – Hokey Cokey is designed to do just that.”
Hokey Cokey will be available from today (1st December) until the end of February 2011. Members can purchase it using their airtime balance or a credit/debit card and it lasts for one month.
